Describe the sound rather than guessing the part
Squeaking, grinding, rattling, scraping, clicking, humming, and a sudden bang are useful descriptions. None identifies a failed part on its own. Note whether the sound comes from the door, track area, or opener, and whether it happens at the start, middle, or end of travel.
Pair the sound with what you see
Does the door also hesitate, tilt, shake, or stop short? Did the sound start after an impact or another change in the garage? Share those details without repeatedly operating a faulty door to reproduce the noise. If a recording already exists, it can help the conversation, but it does not replace an inspection.
Avoid a quick adjustment that hides the issue
Do not tighten spring hardware, reposition tracks, or change opener force settings to silence a noise. If there is visible damage or unpredictable movement, keep the opening clear and stop use. Ask for a diagnosis and explanation of the proposed repair before deciding what to do.
